Paul made powerful statement in 1 Timothy 4:8 when he said that “For bodily exercise profits little…” That statement comes behind 1 Timothy 4:7 when he says “…exercise yourself toward godliness.” Some try to make these statements in opposition to one another, but I think these two positions should actually go together.
The goal of every Christian should be to exercise themselves toward Godliness as in rejecting the profane or in other words that which is in opposition to that which is worthy of the calling of a Christian. We have to avoid lies, rumors, fake news, and sensationalism that may lead us to ungodly living but rather focus on the truth of God’s Word that helps us to exercise our faith rather than be unfaithful. Hearing wrong makes us do wrong similar to one who exercises with poor form, inconsistency, and even a poor diet. Paul’s call exercising toward Godliness means to hear right to do right. In order to practice properly or exercise properly one must know what to do. The Spirit of God through the Word of God is our personal trainer.
As it pertains to bodily exercise Paul made it clear that bodily exercise profits the body! His point in saying that it profits little refers to the fact that in comparison to the exercise of Godliness and faith it does not compare. But if one exercises proper Godliness and bodily exercise not only are they spiritually fit, they are also physically fit. And while one can go to Heaven without being physically fit, they can do more in the Kingdom on earth if they are physically fit and spiritually fit. Practicing physical fitness can help one to think clearer and meditate more on God’s Word. Physical fitness can help us to live longer lives. Being physically fit will enable one to be more active in the lives of others whether playing games, helping other people with physical needs, and a whole host of physical needs. God gave us a body to do the works created for us beforehand according to Ephesians 2:9, which are both physical and spiritual.
On this side of life, we are both spirit and flesh and it behooves us to take care of both. We should make every effort to have our body and spirits to work in tandem. We want to use our bodies as a living sacrifice as a result of our minds being transformed according Romans 12:1-2. And this is where the concept of Fit4TheFaith Clothing comes from. The goal is to extend the concept of spirit and body to even the clothes we wear! James said he will show his faith by his works and I believe we should extend that to our clothing. We live in a world where people express themselves through clothing in many ways, especially negative. As a lover of fitness, casual, and streetwear I want to help people to wear their faith! When we combine spiritual and bodily exercise and extend our faith even to our attire we are Fit4TheFaith!
I hope you enjoy Fit4TheFaith Clothing and I hope it becomes an extension of your faith. To God be the Glory, Power, and Dominion 4EVER!
